The Book Thief is a 2005 historical novel by Aust
ralian
author Markus Zusak and is his most popular work.
Published in 2005, The Book Thief became an international bestseller and
was translated into several languages. It was adapted into a 2013 feature film of the same name. (PLOT)
After the death of Liesel's young brother, Liesel arrives at the home of her
new foster parents, Hans and Rosa Hubermann. During her time there, she is
exposed to the horrors of the Nazo regime, caught between the
innocence of childhood and the maturity demanded by her destructive
surroundings. As the political situation in Germany deteriorates, her foster
parents harbor a Jewish boy named Max. Hans, who has developed a close
relationship with Liesel, teaches her to read in secret. Recognizing the power
of writing and sharing the written word, Liesel not only begins to steal books
that the Nazi party is looking to destroy, but also writes her own stories, and
shares the power of language with Max.
When i first read the book I didnt
expect anything. Nothing suprising or interesting. I don’t like books. But this
book caught my attention. My favourite part was when Hans Hubermann was
teaching Liesel how to read.
Character
My favourite
character was Hans Hubermann and I’m going to tell you something about dear
Hans. Hans is very quiet and is one of the nicest to his step-daughter Liesel. His
wife is Rosa Hubermann, which doesn't appear at first as the nicest person, but
through out the book we find out that she isn't as bad person as it appears at
first.Hans is silently against Nazis.
